Declamation competition held

Ludhiana: The planning forum and consumer forum, under the aegis of economics department of the Government College for Girls, organised a declamation and poster-making competition. The event started with a Power Point presentation on ‘Recent economic reforms’ by Muskan Grover and Vanika, office-bearers of the planning forum. Another Power Point presentation was presented on ‘Consumer awareness’ by Anmol Kapoor, president of consumer forum. The event was judged by the principal Manju Sahni. She shared her views on GST and recent tax reform measures taken by the Central Government.

Grand start for ‘Festaweek’ at PCTE

Festaweek, a week-long cultural and literary annual fest of PCTE, had a grand start. The festival includes Turf, an inter-school competition; Koshish, an intra-college competition; and Ehsaas, an inter-college competition. Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi will perform at the campus on October 12. The fest began with a British Parliamentary debate, in which two teams draw fight against each other in an hour-long debate. A quiz was also held on the first day. Students from 42 countries study at the university and participate in this mega fest. KNS Kang, director general, PCTE Group of Institutes, said such fests helped in nurturing young talent and provided students a platform to demonstrate their skills.

Managing muscle-skeleton disorders

College of Physiotherapy of Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) conducted a two-day session for physiotherapy professionals, interns and students on “Managing chronic musculoskeletal disorders using advanced physiotherapy techniques”. The session was chaired by Dr Kathy Ward, a leading practitioner and senior physio at Bannga Hospital, Australia. Dr Ward taught the most advanced procedures in handling joint and muscle pains, and elaborated assessment techniques for diagnosing chronic spinal disorders. She also spoke about rising demand of physios worldwide and how to practice physiotherapy in Australia. Dr Sandeep Singh Saini, principal, College of Physiotherapy, stated that they were working diligently to give the best education to their students and were committed to provide the finest care to patients.

White-coat ceremony held

Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) organised a white-coat ceremony for the MBBS batch of 2019. This ceremony was held on the conclusion of a month-long foundation course, introduced as part of the new MBBS competency-based curriculum, released by the Medical Council of India (MCI). CMC admits 75 students in each batch of MBBS. The whit-coat ceremony oath was administered by principal Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian. Dr Dinesh K Badyal, professor of pharmacology and medical education at CMC, and convenor of the MCI Nodal centre, said the 2019 MBBS batch was the pioneer batch, which was undergoing the new curriculum of the MCI. Under the foundation course, various new sessions were conducted for new MBBS entrants, including time management, stress management, professionalism, safety precautions, basic life support, doctors and society, communication skills, alternative health care, cultural competency, gender concerns, disability issues, community health, working in health care teams, sports, language issues and computer skills. Display of skills at freshers’ party

Khanna: RIMT University, Mandi Gobindgarh, organised a freshers’ party, Agaaz, to welcome its newcomers, who showcased their talent through various group dances, skits on social causes, vocal and instrumental duets and fashion show. A fashion show and western dance added glamour to the event. Chelsea from BBA and Rajeev from BTech were crowned Ms and Mr Fresher. The title of Ms Glorious was bagged by Ashima from forensic science, Ms Classy by Rinki from School of Mass Communication and Media Technology and the title of best walk was given to Saishree from forensic science. Chancellor Hukam Chand Bansal encouraged students to keep up the spirit of fun and gaiety as these creative activities were as important as studies. OC
