Double delight for city shuttler Rupinder Kaur

LUDHIANA: Rupinder Kaur of Ludhiana proved her mettle as she wrapped up two titles (girls’ singles U-17 and 19) in the Open Junior Punjab Badminton Championship that concluded at Shastri Hall near the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Rupinder Kaur of Ludhiana proved her mettle as she wrapped up two titles (girls’ singles U-17 and 19) in the Open Junior Punjab Badminton Championship that concluded at Shastri Hall near the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

In the Under-17 category, Rupinder Kaur got the better of Vanshika Tandon from Patiala in three sets. She lost the opening game 16-21, but bounced back in the next one to win it 21-12 and went on to stitch the deciding game also though narrowly 21-19 to fetch the title.

However, in girls’ final (U-19), Rupinder faced a little challenge from Vanshika, whom she edged out in straight sets (21-16, 21-13) to win her second title.

Mamta Ashu, former councillor, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, distributed the prizes. MS Grewal and Vinod Vatrana, vice-president and finance secretary, respectively, of the Punjab Badminton Association were the guests of honour at the prize distribution function.

Office-bearers of the District Badminton Association, Ludhiana, players and their parents were also present.

Boys’ singles (U-19): Rhitvik Mohanty of Sangrur beat Anuj Gupta of Jalandhar 22-20, 14-21 and 21-8

Boys’ singles (U-17): Parth Soni of Jalandhar beat Lakshay Sharma of Ludhiana 21-14, 21-8.

Boys’ doubles (U-19): Lakshay Singhal and Mitaksh Gandhi of Ludhiana beat Saatvik Mahajan of Amritsar and Anuj Gupta of Jalandhar 21-11, 22-20.

Boys’ doubles (U-17): Sehaj Bhardwaj and Sunnidhiya of Ludhiana beat Garv Chawla of Amritsar and Ankit Soni of Jalandhar 21-15, 21-4.

Girls’ singles (U-19): Rupinder Kaur of Ludhiana beat Vanshika Tandon of Patiala 21-16, 21-13.

Girls’ singles (U-17): Rupinder Kaur of Ludhiana beat Vanshika Tandon of Patiala 16-21, 21-12 and 21-19.

Girls’ doubles (U-19): Prerna Dawar and Siya Sharma of Ludhiana beat Vanshika Tandon of Patiala and Anmol of Sangrur 21-17, 14-21 and 25-23.

Girls’ doubles (U-17): Prerna Dawer and Sant Kaur of Ludhiana beat Rupinder Kaur and Siya Sharma of Ludhiana 22-24, 21-8 and 21-15.

Mixed doubles (U-19): Rhitvik Mohanty and Anmol of Sangrur beat Mitaksh Gandhi of Ludhiana and Maulika Rajput of Jalandhar 21-16, 21-15.

Mixed doubles (U-17): Sehaj Bhardwaj and Manroop Kaur of Ludhiana beat Agrim Kapila and Pramila of Ludhiana 21-7, 21-13.
