Chandigarh University, Mohali, honoured a city-based international Punjabi folk dancer, Satvir Singh, during a national festival organised on October 19 and 20 for the promotion of Punjabi folk dances at an international level.
Satvir Singh has been contributing to the field of culture 15 years now. He has serving at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) from May 2010 to date. He represented India at international levels by through Punjabi folk dances and brought laurels to the country.
Satvir has won gold, silver and bronze medals in Punjabi folk dances at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Wales, United Kingdom, in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He has also been the first runner-up in bhangra at the Bhangra Dance-Off competition held at University of Technology, Malaysia, in November 2017. He has represented India in folk dance category at Fiji and Nauru in connection with the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, officially sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in January-February 2019.
He teaches Punjabi folk dances to the citizens of Nauru during his visits with the help of local government officials. His performances are highly appreciated by the Government of Fiji, Nauru and Indian officials. The President of Fiji has honoured Satvir during the latter’s visit to Fiji.
Satvir is continuously working to uplift Punjabi folk dances. He is also a paneled judge for Punjab folk dances of all government and private state universities. To date, he has judged more than 50 competitions of folk dances.
