Ludhiana, June 21
With the monsoon ready to drench the city, the Jagraon Municipal Council is yet to carry out fogging.
As per norms, fogging should be carried out before the onset of the rainy season to kill mosquitoes and other insects spreading diseases like malaria and dengue.
The local municipal council has a few fogging machines available at its disposal, but these machines have not been used so far. A few areas in the city have standing water due to rain a couple of days back, but the municipal council has still not carried out fogging.
The lethargic approach of the MC authorities has irked the local residents. Water remains accumulated in areas like Raikot Road, New Shastri Nagar, New Gaushala Road, Old Grain Market, some residential areas on the Kacha Malak Road, thus helping mosquitoes breed.
“The failure of the local civic body in carrying out fogging in the town is a direct indication of lack of seriousness on the part of authorities concerned in preventing spread of water-borne diseases during the rainy season,” said Parveen, a resident of Shastri Nagar.
Charanjit Kaur Kalyan, president of the Jagraon Municipal Council, said fogging was being carried out in some areas of the city and would be carred in the remaining parts of the city in the next few days.
