The Vigilance Bureau officials caught an ASI accepting Rs4,500 as bribe on Monday. The accused has been identified as ASI Gurmeet Singh of Jeevan Nagar Chowki under Focal Point police station.
According to the Bureau officials, Jimmy Paul, a resident of Sector-32 Ludhiana, was allegedly beaten by some persons on June 19, 2017. Paul got an FIR registered against these persons under Sections 323, 341, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC at the Focal Point police station.
Paul alleged that the police did not present the challan against the accused before the court even after the passage of a long time. ASI Gurmeet Singh was investigating the case.
Vigilance Bureau SSP Paramjeet Singh Virk informed that ASI Gurmeet Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs5,000 from Jimmy to present a challan against the accused in the court. Jimmy gave this statement before the Vigilance Bureau, the SSP said.
He said they laid a trap to catch the ASI on Monday. In the presence of government witnesses, ASI Gurmeet Singh was caught taking a bribe of Rs4,500, said Paramjeet Singh Virk. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the ASI.
The SSP appealed to the public to approach the Vigilance Bureau without any hesitation and file corruption complaints.
