Students pledge to protect sovereignty of Constitution

LUDHIANA: Various activities and competitions on the theme of the Constitution of India were organised for students to mark the 70th anniversary of the Constitution of India.

Various activities and competitions on the theme of the Constitution of India were organised for students to mark the 70th anniversary of the Constitution of India.

Green Land Convent, New Subhash Nagar

The day was marked by holding a special assembly. A PowerPoint presentation was shown to students to aware them about the Constitution of India, followed by a speech competition on the theme of Indian Constitution.

DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar

The school organised a mock parliament, in which students discussed in detail the situation in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh after the abrogation of Article 370. The day began with a pledge taken by principal, staff and students to abide by the principles of the Constitution. As many as 80 students of Class VI to XII donned the roles of experienced leaders and statesmen of various political parties, and expressed their views on the issue.

Police DAV Public School

A play was staged by students of Class VIII, in which they highlighted the importance of the Constitution. Students of Class IX sang songs conveying the message of the role of the Constitution and its framework. A fancy dress show was also organised for students of Class VII, in which they dressed as prominent personalities of the Constituent Assembly. The aim of the celebrations was to spread awareness about the constitution and instil a sense of patriotism among students.

Green Land Convent School, Dugri

Students of senior classes read out Fundamental Duties and the Preamble of the Constitution to juniors.

BVM, Kitchlu Nagar

The school paid tributes to the architect of the Constitution, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Students highlighted the importance of the day through speeches. Faculty and students pledged to fulfil their Fundamental Duties.

GMT International Public School, Kakowal Road

Students took a pledge and recited the Preamble to the Constitution. They also took part in a poster-making competition, in which they reflected their thoughts on the principle of the Preamble. A special video highlighting the meaning of the Preamble, five year plans and directive principles was also shown to students of Class VI to IX. School director Guriqbal Singh Thind appreciated the efforts put in by students and teachers both in making the show successful.

DAV, Pakhowal Road

The department of social studies read out the Preamble to the Constitution to students in both Hindi and English. Principal Satwant Kaur Bhullar congratulated said the school was going to follow the CBSE guildlines in context to celebrating the day and leave no stone unturned to impart the teachings of Dr BR Ambedkar.

BVM, Udham Singh Nagar

To reinforce the significance of the Constitution of India, students and faculty paid tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Students spoke on the framework of the Constitution and focused on its role to bring the citizens of India together. Students took an oath to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of the Constitution. The Preamble to the Constitution was also read. As part of the celebrations, slogan-writing and poster-making competitions, on the theme ‘Constitution and Preamble’, were also conducted for students of Class VI to VIII.

Green Grove Public School

Students of Class IX spoke on the Fundamental Rights and Duties of Indian citizens. Speeches highlighting the history and importance of the Construction were delivered by students in Hindi and English. Principal Suzy George exhorted students to follow the Preamble to the Constitution The ceremony ended with the National Song and the National Anthem.

COLLEGES

Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology for Women

Advocate Hari Om Jindal, who runs an NGO to teach slum kids, was the guest of honour on the occasion. He told students that the Constitution of India formally came into effect on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as Republic Day. He also told them that the Indian Constitution was the lengthiest written constitution. He said Constitution Day was celebrated to pay tributes to all great men and women who had worked tirelessly to fight for freedom. Students took a pledge to be responsible citizens and serve the nation.

Government College of Science, Jagraon

The college organised a special programme to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Indian Constitution. The programme commenced with reading of the Preamble by Prof Nidhi Mahajan, NSS programme officer. College director Gurcharan Singh enlightened students on the importance of the day. He also administered a pledge to students to follow the Constitution in all respects.

Malwa Central College of Education for Women

Principal Naginder Kaur urged students to undertake such activities to pay reverence to national leaders. A special assembly was conducted by students of B.Ed-I. Students explained the importance of the Constitution, the Preamble and the history to date.

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology

The celebrations began with reading of the Preamble of the Constitution. About 80 students and 10 faculty members participated in the event, which included watching a live telecast of the celebration of the day. Principal Harpreet Singh informed students that Samvidhan Diwas was celebrated as a mark of tribute to Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the first law minister of India who played an important role in the framing of the Constitution.

Arya College

The postgraduate department of political science organised a Power Point presentation and essay-writing competition on the theme of Indian Constitution, and a poetry-recitation contest on the present state of constitutional working. Prof Parminder Singh Bhogal, head, PG Department of Political Science, delivered a lecture on Fundamental Duties. Students took a pledge to abide by the Fundamental Duties. Principal Savita Uppal urged students to become responsible citizens.
