Tailing two persons after a tip-off on drug smuggling helped the police arrest two members of a gang of vehicle thieves. The suspects have been identified as Sahil (19) of Bagh Colony, Jassian Road, and Monu, alias Vijay Kumar, of Ashiana Colony, Jassian.

The ADCP-1, Gurpreet Singh Sikand, ACP AK Kohli and Daresi SHO Vijay Kumar Sharma addressed a press conference following their arrest.

Sikand said the police had received secret information that the suspects were into drug smuggling and vehicle theft. After getting the location of the suspects, the police started tailing them.

“When the police cornered the suspects at Sundar Nagar, they were in a stolen Swift car. They had stolen the vehicle from the Daresi area on July 18. During questioning, the police recovered three more stolen two-wheelers, including two motorcycles one Activa scooter, which they had stolen from Cheema Chowk and Samrala Chowk,” said the ADCP.

The SHO said the suspects had put up a fake number plate on their car and they were on the way to sell the same. “The suspects are drug addicts and they also reportedly sell drugs. In further probe, the police will try to explore their links with drug smugglers, if any,” said the SHO.

The SHO said Sahil was already facing a vehicle theft case registered against him at Salem Tabri while Monu is facing two cases of drug smuggling registered at the Salem Tabri police station.
