Two students from Doraha reach basketball nationals

DORAHA: Two students of Doraha Public School — Tanjot Singh Cheema (Class- XII) and Nawaz Singh Panaich (Class XI) — have been selected to play in the 64th National School Games Basketball Tournament (under 17).

Two students of Doraha Public School — Tanjot Singh Cheema (Class- XII) and Nawaz Singh Panaich (Class XI) — have been selected to play in the 64th National School Games Basketball Tournament (under 17). The games are being held in Delhi.

Tanjot Singh Cheema and Nawaz Singh recently played for Ludhiana in the Inter-District Basketball Tournament held in Ludhiana recently. Because of their splendid performance, they were selected to play for the Punjab team.

Tanjot Singh Cheema (Class XII) is from Doraha village. He practises in the morning and evening with dedication. Due to his hard work and guidance from his coach Devinder Singh, he was selected for the 62nd Sub Junior Nationals in Puducherry. He played for the Punjab team in a number of district and state-level championships.

Nawaz Singh Panaich is a student of Class IX from Bilga village. Nawaz, being very tall, had an advantage when he started playing basketball. He also played in the sub-junior nationals. In this session, Nawaz has already represented Punjab in the 35thYouth National Basketball Tournament organised at Udaipur, Rajasthan. Nawaz Singh gets training at the Ludhiana Basketball Academy and has won several championship for his team. Nawaz is currently playing his second national level basketball tournament in New Delhi.

Both players want to become professional basketball players.

Director Tapvir Singh and Principal Monica Sarwal expressed that it was a matter of great pride for the institution that the two boys have carved a niche for the institution. We wish them luck for competitions and hope that they come out victorious. They also congratulated basketball coach Devinder Singh.
