Ever since the state government has stepped up its vigil against the sale of adulterated milk under the “Tandarust Punjab” campaign, the vendors selling milk have become jittery.

The Health Department’s officials have been conducting regular raids on premises allegedly selling adulterated milk and milk products.

Such has been the impact of the drive that numerous vendors who used to sell milk by placing drums on roadsides have apparently vanished.

Sensing trouble, some shopkeepers in Jagraon closed their shops on Thursday after hearing of a raid being conducted by the Health Department.

“Earlier, raids used to happen during the festival season. Now, as the government has increased the vigil, those associated with the milk business have been in a state of shock. The raids being conducted by the Health Department, under the ‘Tandrust Punjab’ drive, has spread fear among the people involved in sale of adulterated milk,” said a vendor. The residents, however, have appreciated the government’s drive against the sale of spurious milk and have urged the government to continue this drive in the future as well.

District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang said, “The drive against sale of adulterated milk and unhygienic eatables will continue with same pace in the coming days as well.”
