Two accused to be brought on production warrant

Two days after the Ghaziabad police arrested five criminals wanted in a number of heinous crimes in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Dera Bassi police are all set to question two of them seeking their custodial interrogation in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old slain singer, Navjot Singh, in May this year.

Confirming the development, a senior police official said the Dera Bassi police had sought the production warrant of the two accused for further interrogation.

Acting on a tip-off, the Ghaziabad police had arrested five criminals, Amar Singh (24), a sharpshooter; Dharmendra, Arpit, Kuldeep and Anuj, after intercepting a car near the Rajnagar extension area in UP on Saturday.

During interrogation, one of the arrested accused, Kuldeep, believed to be a member of a the Monu Rana gang, confessed to having shot dead Punjabi singer Navjot Singh on the night of May 27 as the latter had resisted his bid to rob the car near Behra village at Dera Bassi.

On the other hand, the Dera Bassi police have partially denied the role of Kuldeep and his accomplices in the murder of the slain singer, Navjot. Confirming that two accused would be brought to the Dera Bassi police station, SHO Mohinder Singh said the police were set to bring them on production warrant to ascertain their links in connection with a murder case.

However, the investigating team, including CIA, Mohali, till date had not ruled out robbery as the motive behind the killing. What also raises eyebrows is that his purse, ATM cards and cash were found intact. Even the gold chain, which Navjot was wearing, was not removed from his body, which indicated that it was not a case of loot.

When contacted Sanjay Pandey, SHO, Ghaziabad, said out of the five accused, Kuldeep, during his interrogation, confessed to have killed the singer on the night of May 27. He said the court had sent all five accused to judicial custody on Monday.

The body of the singer with five bullet wounds was found lying in pool of blood near a factory at a vacant plot, while his Micra car was found parked with its ignition on and the back door open along the roadside around 50 metres away from his body. According to the police, Navjot was shot while he was on his way back home in his car around 11.30 pm on May 27.
