NEW DELHI: Characterising the day as landmark in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday the historic judgement in the Ayodhya case would also be remembered as a day the country added a golden leaf and the judiciary a golden chapter.

Characterising the day as landmark in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday the historic judgement in the Ayodhya case would also be remembered as a day the country added a golden leaf and the judiciary a golden chapter.

Addressing the nation hours after the Supreme Court judgement, Modi said people of the country should also remember the message that while it may take time, “our faith in the Constitution, judicial system and traditions remain unshaken”.

Underscoring the importance of the day in history, Modi said it was on November 9 that the Berlin War that separated East and West Germany fell and people of opposite streams took a new resolve for living together.

“Today is also the day when the Kartarpur corridor was thrown open for people for which both India and Pakistan cooperated. The world, which knows India as the largest democracy, would now realise that Indian democracy is both alive and strong and every community and religion accepted the decision with an open heart,” he said.

“India is known for its unity in diversity and it can now been seen in full bloom. This is a historic day that Indians will quote. It is not taken from history but a day when the country added a golden leaf,” he said.

Praising the judiciary for continuously and patiently hearing every side to arrive at a verdict and resolving a difficult issue, he said: “This could be appreciated when everyone knows that it is not easy even to solve a family problem”.

He said it is also time people bid farewell to any rancour they may be harbouring and underscored there should be no place for fear, bitterness and negativity. “After today’s decision, the onus is on the country to work towards building a New India, moving forward together and ensuring that no person is left behind,” he said. “Let start now to work for a New India with faith and confidence and with the resolve that no one falls behind. It’s imperative now more than ever to respect law and order and follow judicial system with a priority to work toward a glorious future.”
