About eight-year-old tigress was on Saturday found dead in the reserve area of the Ranthambhor National Park in Rajasthan’s Sawaimadhopur district.

The carcass of the tigress’, codenamed ‘T-11’, was recovered after villagers informed RNP guards at Talwara village’s restricted range. The carcass sent to veterinary hospital for postmortem.

Rajasthan Forest and Mines Minister R.K. Rinwa said prima facie it appears to be a natural death, as a preliminary report indicated that there was no injury sign on its body.

The cause of tigress’ death would be ascertained after a viscera report, he added.

T-11 had given birth to three cubs in her life span.

The Ranthambhore National Park (RNP), spread over 392 sq km, has nearly 60 big cats that includes adults and cubs.

Meanwhile, Babulal Jaju, state convener of an NGO, People For Animals, said there was acute shortage of drinking water pockets in the RNP, and thirst could be one of the reasons for its death. Jaju demanded a probe into the incident by an expert. TNS
