Illicit relations resulted in a murder in Pheloke village, 25 km from here, on Friday night. The deceased, identified as Pardeep Singh, was the son of a woman, Baljit Kaur, said to have been in an illicit relationship with her co-accused Sohan Singh.
During the assault, Pardeep’s father Mangal Singh sustained severe injuries. Baljit Kaur and her paramour Sohan Singh have been booked under Sections 302, 307, 506 and 34 of the IPC by the Goindwal Sahib police. Sohan has been arrested and the woman is absconding, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Baljinder Singh, SHO of the local police station.
Mangal Singh informed the police that the relationship of Sohan Singh and Baljit Kaur had triggered unrest in his family. He said, “On Friday night, Baljit Kaur called Sohan Singh to her house. When Sohan Singh knocked at the door, it was Pardeep who opened the door. Sohan attacked him in no time with a sharp-edge weapon and left him critically injured.” Mangal ran to the rescue of Pardeep, but he too was attacked.
Both were taken to the local Civil Hospital where the doctors declared Pardeep Singh dead. Mangal Singh was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar.
Sohan Singh, said to be a truck driver, hails from Sheron village. He had been residing in Pheloke village with his married sister.
