Officials recommend firm for installing fire safety equipment: Sood
Chandigarh, July 31
In a shocking revelation, former Mayor and councillor Arun Sood today alleged in the MC General House meeting that fire officials were giving visiting cards of a company along with the violation notices issued to several commercial establishments in the city.
MC Commissioner KK Yadav said he would order a vigilance probe through the UT Administration after receiving a written complaint in this regard.
The BJP leader said the department had recently served fire safety violation notices on several commercial establishments and institutes. Later, an SO-level official visited the premises of the violators and gave visiting cards of a company dealing in fire safety equipment.
“A shop owner contacted me to inform that he was given an estimate of Rs 1.25 lakh by the said firm to get fire equipment installed. However, he approached another firm which installed the equipment for about Rs 75,000. After getting the equipment installed, the shop owner went to the department to obtain NOC. However, he was told that he will be charged Rs 25,000 for the NOC. It was because he did not get the work done from the company whose visiting card he was given,” alleged Sood.
Station Fire Officer SK Gosain said, “Whoever has faced this should come to us. We will take a strict action.” — TNS
