NEW DELHI: Australia will send 1,607 university students selected by a tough national selection process to undertake short-term study and work-based experiences in India as part of the “New Colombo Plan” to enhance its youth’s understanding about the Asia-Pacific region.

New Delhi, November 1

Australia will send 1,607 university students selected by a tough national selection process to undertake short-term study and work-based experiences in India as part of the “New Colombo Plan” to enhance its youth’s understanding about the Asia-Pacific region.

Students from Australian universities will embark on 64 projects in India, including one on the development of education programmes and another on improving organic-waste management and drinking water quality.

“We are supporting a new generation of young Australians who want to deepen their understanding of the people, the business environment and the culture in India, strengthening the ties between our nations,” said Acting Australian High Commissioner to India Rod Hilton. — TNS
