Four-day international workshop focusing on “Antimicrobial Resistance and Strategies for its Mitigation” concluded at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) on Friday.
Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU said, “The issue of Antimicrobial Resistance (AR) was extensively deliberated. Brain storming session covering various aspects from occurrence of AR among bacteria and different mitigation strategies were explored.”
Dr TS Rai, organizing secretary stated that the possibilities of use of bacteriophages, antibodies, antimicrobial peptides and natural herbal products for the control of diseases caused by superbugs were discussed in detail.
Dr AK Arora coordinator of the workshop said antibiotics stewardship programme was envisaged to curtail development of AR and its further transmission. There is need to develop collaborative research projects and all the participating delegates of different countries agreed for sharing of data related to AR on a common platform like global antimicrobial resistance surveillance system (GLASS) of the WHO.
House was impressed upon to request respective governments to check and curve manufacturing and sale of spurious antibiotics to ensure that only high quality antibiotics product reach end users. Workshop ended on a note to develop healthy and disease free world.
