City girl Parul Beri has brought honour to the state by bagging the 47th rank in the country.
Parul Beri, daughter of Jalandhar-based doctors Dr Parveen Beri and Dr Seema Beri, pursued her Class XI and XII standard studies from Chandigarh, She did her Xth standard studies from St Joseph’s Convent School in Jalandhar.
Speaking about her mantra for cracking the exams, Parul said she always kept it light.
“I studied at a hostel and we have a group of friends who constantly kept in touch and helped each other. We were all very supportive of each other. I studied for five to six to 10 hours and constantly took breaks. At times, test results also affected me and I got depressed, but I tried my best not to stress out.”
While she also kept in touch through WhatsApp groups wherein students called on teachers to clear doubts, she also consulted test papers and other literature concerning exams to keep her up to date.
Her elder sister is pursuing MBBS course from the DMCH in Ludhiana, Parul aspires to become a neurologist. Following Parul Beri closely are Ridham Mehndiratta with the all-India of 93, Akshit Mittal with 297th rank and Mahek with 378th rank.
Ridham, a student of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, got 96.2 per cent marks in Class XII exams. Speaking to The Tribune, he said, “I studied for five to six hours ahead of the exams to crack NEET. It feels nice to have hit a decent national rank.”
While Ridham was taking coaching in chemistry and biology from different coaching centres, he will not be the first doctor in his household. His brother Dr Subodh Mehndiratta, Ridham said, has been a constant inspiration for him. While his father Rajkumar Mehndiratta is a businessman, his mother Sarita Arora is a housewife and his sister Richa Arora is pursuing engineering.
Ridham said, “I am very thankful to my parents and teachers, who were a constant support for me during my studies. My brother also served as an inspiration for me during my studies.” Ridham’s teacher Dr Abhishek Mishra said he was proud of the achievements of Ridham.
Akshit Mittal has bagged the 297th rank in the country. Akshit said he studied for 10 to 12 hours a day.
He said, “I tried to maintain a balance between studies and other activities. I took regular breaks, pursued outdoor activities, exercised and played the piano during my study breaks to counter the stress and also went on excursions with my family.”
While both his parents are doctors – father Dr Atul Mittal being a urologist and mother Dr Anu Mittal, an ophthalmologist, Atul said he was looking forward to pursuing urology as his chosen specialisation.
His brother is also pursuing MBBS from the DMC Ludhiana. Akshit said he would consider himself lucky if he made it to a college in Delhi.
Mahek, a student of Shiv Jyoti Public School, bagged the 378th rank, said “I studied for four to five hours a day, and have been studying as per a strict schedule. I thank my parents Ramkrishna and mother Sushila Yadav as well as my teachers for helping me through the ups and downs.”
