Patiala, July 18
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her ‘stepfather’ at her residence in Patiala. The shocking incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint against the accused at the Lahori Gate police station on Tuesday.
The girl’s biological father had died 10 years ago. The girl was living with her mother, a younger brother, and her ‘stepfather’, said the police.
She alleged that her ‘stepfather’ raped her about a month back and threatened to kill her if she reported the matter to anybody.
The police have registered an FIR under Section 376 of the IPC against the accused and he has been charged under POCSO Act. However, the accused is absconding, informed police officials.
Gurnam Singh Ghuman, SHO, Lahori Gate, said: “An FIR has been registered by the police against the accused on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim. The police have launched search operation to arrest the accused. The police are raiding his expected hideouts and he will be arrested soon.” The police are yet to ascertain the relationship of the accused with the victim’s mother.— TNS
