Police confiscate illicit liquor from manhole in Khanna

KHANNA: Around 175 policemen led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Jasvir Singh today cordoned off an infamous meat market in Khanna during the wee hours.

Around 175 policemen led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Jasvir Singh today cordoned off an infamous meat market in Khanna during the wee hours. This particular locality has been known as a liquor smuggling hub of the city.

During the raid, cops recovered 23 bottles of illicit liquor from three people.

According to information, the operation was planned on Tuesday and today the policemen were directed to reach Khanna SSP GS Grewal’s office at 4:30 am.

As the police surrounded the market, some anti-social elements in the tried to flee by scaling roofs and walls. Cops recovered 12 bottles of illicit liquor from a house of Vinod in Mohalla Pardhan and six bottles from Vimla and five bottles from another house. The illict liquor was stored in a manhole.

Cases were registered against three people under the Excise Act. DSP Narcotics Jatinderpal Singh, DSP City Deepak Rai apart from SHO’s of three police stations also took part in the raid.

The SSP said stern action would be taken against the violators in near future.
