Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said she was leaving UP as her purpose of meeting the families of the victims had been fulfilled, adding that she would return soon.

This she told party workers and others before ending her 24-hour dharna.

Earlier, the administration brought around two dozen members of the clash victims’ families to meet Priyanka.

It included seven women. Priyanka reportedly assured them of all support.

It is a victory for Priyanka who had been repeatedly refusing to take bail and was firm on not returning without meeting the victims. Priyanka talked one on one with the women who had lost members of their families.

Men from the victims’ families said they had come on their own, hiring a vehicle and were not brought by the administration.

Crying women hugged Priyanka, who was seen wiping her tears. She also offered her bottled water to the women.

Priyanka talked to the women for more than half an hour and was likely to leave for Varanasi later.

Earlier, despite spending a night without electricity in the sweltering heat in the make-shift jail of Chunar guesthouse, Priyanka remained determined to proceed to Sonbhadra to meet the adivasis who recently became the victim of a massacre.
