Amritsar, May 9
Acting on secret information, the Amritsar rural police on late Wednesday evening nabbed an Army man working as a spy for a Pakistani intelligence agency.
The accused, Malkit Singh, a jawan, is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, he was nabbed from near the Khasa cantonment area. A case under Sections 3, 4, 5 and 9 of the Official Secret Act and Section 120B of the IPC has been registered against him for criminal conspiracy.
Malkit was produced before a court, which sent him to police remand for further interrogation.
Amritsar rural police chief Vikram Jeet Duggal said the Gharinda police received a tip-off that Malkit Singh, who originally hailed from Mahawa village located near the Indo-Pak border, Attari, was in contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence and was leaking vital information to them that could hurt India’s interest, security and national integrity. Duggal said he was leaking vital information such as pictures of sensitive military areas, installations, Army’s training manual and maps of vital locations through WhatsApp, mobile phone and e-mail account.
Following this, the Gharinda police laid a trap near the Khasa cantonment area and Malkit was arrested late Wednesday evening. The police recovered some pictures, three mobile phones, training manual and Army’s movement details from his possession. He said it was found that he also had contact with Pakistan-based smugglers.
