Bus catches fire, none injured

Abohar: A Lok Parivahan Sewa luxury bus from Sriganganagar to Jaipur caught fire on the Hanumangarh mega highway on Monday.



Abohar: A Lok Parivahan Sewa luxury bus from Sriganganagar to Jaipur caught fire on the Hanumangarh mega highway on Monday. The driver reportedly noticed multiple sparks in the wiring of the engine of the bus. He halted the bus and got down along with conductor and eight passengers. The police control room was informed after which cops from Pallu town reached there. Fire tender came after about half an hour. OC

6 drug peddlers held, tablets seized

Abohar: The police in Sriganganagar claimed to have seized 87,750 sedative tablets under a special drive that was launched on Sunday and continued on Monday. Officials said Ramesh Kamboj, an un-registered medical practitioner, was nabbed near water works in Manewala village, while Dharampal and Rimpy were held in Sadulshehar. They said Satish Arora, Giani Nanak Singh  and Sandeep Verma  were arrested in Sriganganagar. All were arrested under the NDPS Act. OC

BBMB bags 3 prizes in language implementation

Chandigarh: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has won the first three prizes in a row for implementation of the official language in the category of subordinate offices. The first prize was bagged by the Chief Engineer, Bhakra Dam, at Nangal, while the second and third prizes went to the Chief Engineer, Transmission System, Chandigarh, and Chief Engineer, System Operations, Chandigarh, respectively. These awards were received by the chief engineers from Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home affairs, at a function held at the Government College for Women, Sector 42, here on Monday. Rijiju also released the second issue of the BBMB house journal “BBMB Samachar” on the occasion. TNS

Zira DSP injured in road mishap

Ferozepur: Zira Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narinder Singh had a narrow escape on Monday when the official vehicle in which he was travelling in collided with a truck. The incident took place when the DSP was going from Zira to Amritsar for official work. As his vehicle reached near Tarn Taran, it collided with a truck, coming from the opposite direction. Though the vehicle was badly damaged, the police officials, including the DSP, escaped with minor injuries. All of them were admitted to a hospital in Amritsar. When contacted, SSP Pritam Singh said the police officials had a narrow escape and they were discharged from the hospital. OC
