Patiala, May 16
The Enforcement Directorate today procured two-day remand of alleged drug supplier Jagjit Chahal, who was arrested yesterday on the charges of investing drug money into various properties. The ED team led by its officer Niranjan Singh today pleaded before the Patiala court that they needed to grill Chahal to get information about his links and investments made by him in the recent past.
Having evaded court summons more than seven times, Chahal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after laying a trap in Mohali yesterday. He was taken to Jalandhar zonal office after the special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in Patiala gave two-day remand to the ED for his further questioning.
The ED had, last month, attached properties and seven business firms worth over Rs 54 crore owned by Chahal and his relatives. — TNS
