In a major haul, the police have recovered 1.160-kg heroin with a market value of Rs 5 crore from a border village located on the Indo-Pak border in Ferozepur district, SP (investigation) Harinder Pal Singh Parmar said today.

He said the police got a tip-off that the packets of heroin was lying in the fields of a farmer Jangir Singh, which is located across the fence on the Indo-Pak border. The area falls under Jagdish border post of the Border Security Force.

The SP said a police team led by CIA Staff Inspector Tarlochan Singh conducted a search in the paddy fields of the farmer with the help of the local unit of the BSF and recovered two packets of heroin weighing 580 grams each.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the heroin was supplied by smugglers from across the border and was likely to be delivered to their associates in Moga district.

The exact modus operandi used by Pakistan-based smugglers to send the consignment of the contraband in India was not known, but, it was believed that they could have used small drones to drop the packets.

The police have taken the farmer Jangir Singh into custody for questioning to find out his involvement in smuggling of drugs, if any.
