Setting a new tradition, legal luminaries today got together to bid farewell to Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Krishna Murari, who has been elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.

The farewell to the outgoing Chief Justice, in line with the Supreme Court tradition, marks a new convention for the High Court. The gesture came on a suggestion mooted by Punjab Advocate-General Atul Nanda.

The Punjab AG was accompanied by Haryana AG Baldev Mahajan, Assistant Solicitor-General Chetan Mittal and Bar association president DP Randhawa. They went to the court of the CJ after he finished the day’s business to extend their gratitude and heartiest wishes.

In his farewell speech, Nanda wished the outgoing CJ “an onward journey filled with extraordinary judicial achievement, fortified wisdom and above all personal happiness.” Referring to the CJ’s scrutiny in court as both exacting as well as benevolent, Nanda said the outgoing CJ had always been warm and encouraging to counsel, especially, to the untried and the young.
