Sarpanch injured in shootout

FEROZEPUR: Angrej Singh, sarpanch of Masteke village near here, was injured during a shootout outside a local college on Thursday morning.

Angrej Singh, sarpanch of Masteke village near here, was injured during a shootout outside a local college on Thursday morning. The injured sarpanch, backed by Congress, was initially sent to the civil hospital for treatment but was later referred to Government Medical College, Faridkot.

Sources said two rival student groups gathered outside the college due to an ongoing tussle. Angrej Singh’s son, a student of the college, reached there to placate the warring groups. However, the situation took an ugly turn when an unidentified youth opened fire and one of the bullets hit Angrej in the leg.The entire incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed at one of the shops outside the college.

The youth managed to flee before the police could reach the spot. Jatinder Singh, SHO, said the police had started investigating and the accused would be nabbed soon.
