Hyderabad, October 15
Alleging that there had been chaos in the implementation of GST, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal has said the new tax regime should be made simpler, especially for small players.
The Congress leader said the Goods and Services Tax was not very well-planned. He added that the country’s economy was not in a position to bear shocks like note ban and GST within a year.
“Now that we have got into this regime, we should try and simplify it,” he said.
“Simplify, especially for some sectors like textile sector, construction sector, bicycle industry, especially for the small and medium trader and for that, the Centre must listen to the feedback coming from the states,” he said.
“Every state has a peculiar problem and there are multiple slab rates,” Manpreet said.
“There is something seriously wrong. It has to be corrected. I can see it now as a member of the GST Council that the BJP is rattled by its consequences,” said Manpreet, who visited the Telangana Congress office here recently. — PTI
