8 get death, one life term for student’s murder

A district court today sentenced eight persons to death and awarded life term to another convict for murdering a college student in 2014 in North 24-Parganas in West Bengal.

Seventh Additional District Judge, Barasat, Daman Prasad Biswas, also awarded five-year jail to three persons for the murder of Sourav Chowdhury at Bamungachi in the district on July 5, 2014. Those sentenced to death are Shyamal Karmakar, Suman Sarkar, Suman Das, Amal Barui, Somnath Sardar, Tapas Biswas, Ratan Samaddar and Tarak Das. Rakesh Burman has been awarded life sentence. — PTI
