The 18th birthday celebrations turned nightmare for a youngster as he was allegedly beaten up by the parents and relatives of his “girlfriend”.

The victim, Aman Arora, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to DMC, Ludhiana. The incident took place on Monday and the police had lodged a case against the victim and his friend Rohit Garg on the complaint by Gulshan Verma, who had alleged that the accused took his 17-year-old daughter to Mohali on the pretext of marrying her.

However, after a protest by the relatives of the injured, the police today registered an FIR under Sections 323, 341, 342, 307, 34 of the IPC against Verma, his wife Monica Verma and other relatives, including Sonu and Ansh Verma.

“My nephew was mercilessly thrashed by Gulshan and his family members after they forcibly brought him back from Mohali,” said Rajesh Kumar.

In his complaint, Rajesh Kumar alleged that his nephew and his friends, including the girl, had gone to Mohali on September 9 to celebrate his birthday. He alleged Gulshan along with other accused reached there and took them to their house where they all thrashed Aman.

DSP Rural Satpal Sharma denied the allegations of delay in registering the FIR and said they had registered two FIRs on the statements of both parties.

Youth killed in Malout

In another incident, Parkash Singh (22) of Kolianwali village was allegedly thrashed by some people at Pakki Tibbi village on Tuesday night. Parkash died at Civil Hospital in Malout on Wednesday morning. His family alleged that Kabarwala police was not registering a case against the accused. Sources said the youth had an affair with a woman of the same community and her family members killed him.
