Ludhiana, December 22
A state-level meeting of the Punjab Sewer Men Employees’ Union was organised at the MC’s Zone-A office on Saturday. The office-bearers were also elected on the occasion.
Vijay Kumar, president of Ludhiana unit of the union, said they also discussed the problems being faced by the sewer men. The union wants the government to ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court orders for the safety of sewer men on duty. The union members have demanded from the government to regularise contractual workers at the earliest. The sewer men should be provided safety kits for work, the union members said. During the conference, the presidents of district-level units were elected unanimously. — TNS
