Skill course optional subject for humanities students

From now on, Class XI students seeking admission in the humanities stream can also opt for skill courses as well. Earlier, skill courses were part of the vocational stream only.

At present, there are 16 government schools in the city that are offering skill courses as elective subject in the humanities stream. The aim is to lay more emphasis on practical learning.

The students are being offered two modes of practical training — one is complete practical training in school workshops for courses in fashion designing and clothing construction and textile design-dying and printing, while the other is training in hospital & hotel industry for courses in ophthalmic techniques, medical laboratory technology, food and beverage service and food production.

In the previous session, as many as 208 students got placed in a job fair organised by the Education Department in partnership with the CII.

This year, yoga as a skill course has also been introduced in GMSSS, Sector 8, GGMSSS, Sector 20-B, GMSSS, Sector 40, GMSSS, Sector 47, GMSSS, Sector 37-D and GMSSS, Mani Majra Town.

Till last year, 16 schools were offering skill courses in Classes IX and X. From this year onwards, six more government schools have added skill courses for Class IX and X students. All these schools have decided to add information technology as a skill course. Besides, other courses will include GMSSS-32 (apparel), GMSSS, Khuda Alisher, (retail), GSSS, Mauli Jagran, (food production), GMSSS, Sarangpur, (beauty & wellness), GMSSS, Dhanas, (apparel) and GMSSS, Kaimbwala, (retail).

14,721 registration forms till date 

• Admission to Class XI in 40 senior secondary schools began from May 20. Students can fill up forms till June 7 and submit hard copy between June 4 and June 8. In just four days, 14,721 students have been registered for admission. 
• Registration forms can be filled online at chdeducation.gov.in. For that you have to submit a registration fee of Rs 130 payable through net banking/ credit card/ debit card. The forms can be submitted at sex designated schools — GMSSS-20-D, GMSSS-37-D, GMSSS-38(W), GMSSS-46, GSSS, Mauli Jagran, (V), and GMSSS-MHC.
• There will be only one registration form for all streams and the candidates can fill the option of filling of 20 government schools and streams of their choice.
