Jasleen Kaur Bhullar did Sahnewal proud by securing the fourth place in the Punjab Civil Services Combined Competitive Exam-2018, the results of which were declared by the Punjab Public Service Commission on Friday evening.

Jasleen in every way proved that she was an extraordinary child. She topped the area and was fourth in the district with 95.8 per cent marks in her matriculation exams, after which she did her graduation and post-graduation in computer science from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. She cleared her GATE in the very first attempt and joined as an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Chandigarh University followed by Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College for around two years. She is currently an Inspector in the Department of Cooperation, Punjab. She cleared her preliminary exam of PCS in the month of July followed by mains in April and finally her interview yesterday.

Jasleen is the only child of her parents Gurcharan Singh and Navdeep Kaur. Jimmy, as they fondly call her, used to burn midnight oil, they said. “God has been bountiful enough to grant me such a child. What else is left to seek when the almighty has already given me the choicest gift of my life for whom there has been no looking back ever since she was born,” the emotional mother said.

Jasleen used to get up at 4 am and take tuitions from 5 to 8. She then taught from 11am to 7 pm as she was an Assistant Professor. Then she came back at 8 and took tuitions again till 9 pm. After light dinner, she studied till 1, 2 or even 3 in the morning. “I couldn’t afford to be ill during this period,” said Jasleen.

“There is much to be done for education in our state. Quality education should be accorded in government schools, so that middle class people are saved from the loot of private schools. Another aspect, which shall find my minute focus shall be the conservation of fast depleting environment including the water crisis and its restoration shall be my sole moral responsibility,” she expressed.


Ahmedgarh’s Gur Iqbal secures rank 74

Mandi Ahmedgarh: Mandi Ahmedgarh’s Gur Iqbal Singh has cleared the PCS Examination by securing fourth position in his category and 74 overall rank. Gur Iqbal started his carrier as an auction recorder in Punjab Mandi Board and is presently working as BDPO, Dehlon. He was selected for the post on the basis of his rank in 2013 batch of PCS (allied services).  Now, having cleared the PCS examination, he expects posting as a DSP, as he had already cleared the physical endurance test required for the post. Gur Iqbal said in 2013, too, he expected a higher rank. He said: “Had my parents not motivated me for appearing in the civil services, I, like any other youth, could have stagnated at my initial posting in Punjab Mandi Board. Now, I aspire to appear in the IAS examination.” — Mahesh Sharma
