The police will soon have a remote-operated vehicle (ROV), which can recover improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and can safely locate, handle and destroy all types of hazardous objects.
The high-powered purchase committee of the government, headed by Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu, on Wednesday approved the order of one ROV to be purchased at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Karan Dev Kamboj who, along with Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain, is a member of the committee, said during a meeting on April 3, the agenda was deferred with the comments that the National Security Guard (NSG) should be approached for collecting information related to the type of equipment and about the supplier.
“Today, it was observed that as per the tender summary report in case of the purchase of similar equipment for the NSG, Precision Operating System (India), Thane, and High-tech Robotic System Limited, Gurugram, had submitted their e-bids. Of these, the first was considered technically qualified by the NSG,” said Kamboj.
He said the firm wanted 17 per cent maintenance charges after three years up to the warranty period of eight years, but the committee brought it down to seven per cent.
Hanif Qureshi, IG (Security), said the ROV could lift and manoeuvre to safe distances dangerous objects such as bombs. The ROV could be operated from a distance of 500 metre if the area is without buildings. In crowded places. it could be remote controlled from a distance of 150 to 200 metre, he added.
Qureshi said though other states had already acquired such ROVs, Haryana was purchasing the device for the first time.
Besides this, the high-powered committee also approved the purchase of pumping sets of various powers for the Irrigation Department. However, it deferred the purchase of computer sets for Hartron.
