Rain is expected to continue for the coming few days. According to the Meteorological Department monsoon has gone active now.
It rained 12.2 mm in the City Beautiful on Wednesday, said weathermen. In the area around airport, 21mm rain was recorded. It was normal and scattered rain at some places while at other places, it rained heavily.
“It will continue to rain till July 22 or July 24. It may be less or scattered, but will continue. The monsoon is active now. The rain will be normal in July,” said Surender Paul, director, Chandigarh Meteorology Centre.
On Thursday, it will generally be cloudy sky with likely rain/thundershowers. The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 34°C and minimum at 26.7°C. The temperature is expected to be 34°C and 26.7°C, maximum and minimum, respectively, on Thursday.
Many areas waterlogged
Commuters had a harrowing experience when some of the areas of the City Beautiful faced waterlogging after the rain. The parking areas in Sector 32 and 44 filled up with rainwater. Some other parking lots of the city were also inundated with rainwater.
The low-lying areas of the city, including Industrial Area, Phase I, Ram Darbar, Mani Majra and Hallo Majra, were flooded with the rainwater. The commuters faced problem when the rainwater accumulated at an under bridge in Sector 15 and Industrial Area, near the CTU workshop. Knee-deep water made it difficult for cyclists and motorists to cross the stretch.
Residents in colonies and villages also faced difficulties when water accumulated on the road.
