The coming days are going to be tough for the local ball badminton players, as two of the officer-bearers of the Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association are at loggerheads with each other over the working of the association. The association has split into two factions.
One from the two factions has recently called annual general meeting and also conducted the annual general election. However, the other faction has decided to move the court against the step. Prahbjeet Lamba, previously appointed as the working president, has decided to move court against the annual general elections conducted by Inderjeet Singh Puri, secretary. “We are genuine and backed by Ball Badminton Federation of India. The national body has also sent an observer to supervise our elections. All the new office-bearers are well attached with game and we are here to promote ball badminton among youth of Chandigarh. The former working president is mistaken about everything and we have all affiliated units with us,” said Puri. While his rival Prahbjeet Lamba group claimed, “No unit or officer-bearer was informed about the annual general meetings or elections. The units participated in their (Puri’s) elections were not even affiliated. There was no written communication sent to any of the member to attend the same. I have moved to the court regarding the same with all the proofs,” said Lamba.
The fight between two factions will leave the local players to suffer. The association besides conducting various championships also sends teams to participate in the nationals of both boys and girls category. And the ongoing tussle between both the fractions may affect this participation. “The tussle will only affect players and their participation in the nationals. The national association could stop the grants and could disaffiliate both the units. The players of ball badminton are already facing troubles at the junior and sub-junior level and this recent spat would surely make them to opt for other sports,” said a former senior player.
