Bathinda, March 6
Leaders of various political parties at Maur Mandi have announced that they would not celebrate their victory when the results of the Assembly elections are announced on March 11.
This comes after residents of Maur Mandi decided not to celebrate Holi in view of the death of six persons, including four children, in the bomb blast on January 31.
The blast had occurred outside the Congress office. Party candidate Harminder Jassi had a narrow escape.
A committee has been formed by Mandi residents to build pressure on the police and district administration for the immediate arrest of the culprits, adequate compensation for the victims and basic facilities for the town.
Committee member Parveen Kumar said, “All Mandi residents have unanimously decided not to celebrate the poll win and Holi. Local NGOs and various kisan unions are also supporting us.” He said that a meeting of committee members in this regard was held on Sunday.
Parveen Kumar said the candidates of various parties have confirmed their “no-celebration” stand by calling up the committee members today.
