Ambala, July 13
The INLD and BSP organised a ‘jail bharo’ rally at the Grain Market in Ambala City and offered to court arrest in support of their demand for the early completion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal on Friday.
Addressing the workers, INLD leader Abhay Chautala said, “Earlier, the BJP government failed to bring the water of the SYL canal and then, it de-notified the Dadupur Nalvi canal. We will not take our steps back and, if needed, we will hold bigger agitations to get our demands fulfilled.”
He said that the previous Congress state government had not only failed to secure the rights of Haryana but had also used those 10 years to indulge in unprecedented corruption. People wanted a change and that paved the way for the BJP's victory in 2014 as there was no third front. But now, the people have an alternative in the form of a third front led by BSP leader Mayawati.
Abhay Chautala urged the on-duty police and district officials to detain the activists gathered there. The officials expressed their inability to do so. However, they completed the formality by announcing the detention of the activists from the stage and then their release within a couple of minutes.
