Heaps of garbage, refuse dumped at vacant plot

The plot lying vacant across Sudama Market road connecting the central market at Jyoti Chowk is becoming a cause of upheaval with each passing day. The plot has become a den of debris and junk material. Although one cannot see the plot while passing through it, as it is surrounded by the cloth market, but the gravity of the situation could easily be stipulated from the foul smell arising from the dumped garbage.

Also it’s a non-designated site for dumping any kind of waste material but still from the past many years the shop owners and vendors have made it a disposable point.

However, the empty spaces around the circumference of the dump point has become home for migrants and labourers working there. Ravi Kumar who has been running a shop for a long time there said, earlier we mistook that the plot as a dumping plot and since then we were disposing of our trash there.

Another vendor said, just like other garbage dump points, we thought sanitation workers would also pick up the waste material from here but nothing in this regard has happened.

On the flip side, the plot lies in the interior of Jyoti market where there is a difficulty of parking space.The plot could serve as a parking space, said another shop owner.

The councillor of Ward No. 50, where the plot lies, said, the Mayor had been informed about the seriousness of the issue and he had confirmed about its eradication. However Mayor Jagdish Raja said, the clearance would be initiated shortly as the MC had already taken cognisance of the matter.
