The administration has already initiated a process to estimate loss incurred by farmers due to incessant rains. A large number of farmers had to plough their submerged fields for paddy transplantation once again.
Blockage in majority of drains lead to submerging of paddy fields in hundreds of acres. Even submersible pumps, agricultural equipment and fodder also suffered extensive damge due to waterlogging in certain areas.
Revenue officials under the supervision of Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta have completed physical verification and special girdawari, however, farmers apprehended that the compensation offered would fall short of the expenses incurred. It is estimated that in case of complete damage of paddy crop a farmer would be compensated between Rs 8000 and Rs 12,000 per acre.
Maintaining that revenue officials have already completed first phase of special girdawari, Raikot BDPO Navneet Joshi said process of providing compensation will be completed soon.
“Exact amount of compensation to be awarded is yet to be calculated and concerned officials have been advised to ensure that farmers are not harassed,” he said. Joshi added that rescuing farmers was the top priority of the administration.
Punjab Kisan Sabha office bearer Baldev Latala demanded that farmers who have suffered complete damage to their paddy crop must be awarded a compensation of Rs 30,000 per acre.
