The police today nabbed two drug smugglers and recovered 2.4 kg of heroin from their possession. They have been identified as Shubham, alias Bamb (23), a resident of New Kundanpuri; and Abhishek Jain (21), a resident of Sundar Nagar.
Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal, DCP SS Dhindsa, ADCP Harish Dayama and ACP Surinder Mohan addressed a press conference regarding the case today. The city police crime wing along with the counter intelligence team busted the drug network.
Agrawal said the two smugglers were on the way to supply heroin to their clients near New Kundanpuri in their Swift car. They were nabbed at a naka.
The CP said Shubham was plus two pass and had worked as salesman at Kakar Cloth House, Madhopuri. Abhishek, who was tenth pass, earlier worked at a hosiery unit. The duo took to the drug trade to become rich in a short span of time.
Shubham is already facing a case of Arms Act and robbery registered against him at the Hariana police station, Hoshiarpur, in 2017 after he, along with his accomplices, took away a car at gunpoint. In the case, he had served two years in jail. He came out on bail about a month ago.
Shubham also faced a case of drug smuggling registered at Hoshiarpur in 2017.
When the CP was asked if Shubham had links with any jail smugglers or he ran the smuggling racket at the behest of smugglers lodged in jail, he said nothing of this sort had come to the fore in the case so far.
