Panchayats dissolved, polls by Sept 30

The state government on Tuesday dissolved all gram panchayats and panchayat samitis. The elections for the same will be held in two months.
Anurag Verma, Financial Commissioner and Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayats, said the department had named officers to hold the charge till the completion of the poll process. The government has already given its nod for holding the zila parishad and panchayat elections before September 30. The elections hold significance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Following a meeting with Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar last month, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had given his nod to hold the elections before September 30.
