Woman agent held for immigration frauds

The police have arrested a woman immigration consultant, who is said to be very popular owing to her funny ‘TikTok’ videos, on the charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

The suspect has been identified as Baljinder Kaur, who runs her office from Phase 5 here.

According to the police, the suspect and her husband were active on social media. The couple used to post ‘TikTok’ videos on social networking sites. “They are having lakhs of followers on a social media site,” said the police.

According to the police, two different complaints were received against the woman, following which separate cases under Sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code and appropriate sections of the Immigration Act have been registered at the Mataur police station here. 

One of the complainants, Tek Chand, a resident of Moga, alleged that the suspect duped him on the pretext of sending his son to Canada. She allegedly took around Rs 4.20 lakh from him. 

In another complaint of similar nature, Surinder Kaur of Nawanshahr stated that she had given the suspect Rs 2.85 lakh.

In both cases, the suspect neither kept her promise nor did she return her clients’ money, said the police. 

The police said the woman’s husband was also arrested earlier on similar charges.
