Tulsi Gabbard ties knot in Vedic ceremony in Hawaii

Washington: Tulsi Gabbard, the first-ever Hindu American in the US Congress, tied the knot with cinematographer Abraham Williams in a Vedic ceremony in her home state of Hawaii. The marriage between 33-year-old Gabbard and 26-year-old Williams at the historic Kahaluu Fishpond concluded with a traditional yoga 'kirtan' and was attended by a large number of US lawmakers besides Gabbard's friends and family. Robot inspects inside of Fukushima reactor in Japan

Tokyo: Japan on Friday deployed a shape-shifting remote-controlled robot to survey a reactor at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant to assess for the first time the radiation levels since the 2011 tsunami. The survey would be used to assess the condition of the melted fuel debris in detail. The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has sent a robot to inspect the internals of a reactor. PTI

Fire engulfs mosque in Russia’s Dagestan

Makhachkala: Fire has engulfed the main mosque in a town in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan. Police spokeswoman Fatina Ubaidatova says no one was hurt when the fire swept through the mosque in Kizlyar, located near the border with Chechnya. Fire investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which broke out after morning prayers. AFP

Morocco bus crash kills 33, mostly school athletes 

Rabat: Schoolchildren returning from a sports competition in Morocco were among 33 persons killed on Friday in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus that caught fire. The accident in southern Morocco is the worst in the North African kingdom since September 2012 when a bus plunged into a ravine, killing 42 persons. A majority of the victims are children aged eight to 14. AFP

Two blasts kill 11 in Iraqi capital

Baghdad: Iraqi officials say two separate bombings have targeted public places in Baghdad, killing 11 persons. Police officials say a suicide bomber set off his explosives vest at noon inside a small restaurant in the town of Mishada, killing six persons and wounding 14. A little bit later, a car bomb blast in the downtown Karrada district in Baghdad killed five persons and wounded 12. AP
