Muktsar, March 19

Though the elections are just two months apart (May 19), the electioneering is yet to pick up. Travel on any road in the district, one will find activities related to the elections missing. The political hoardings have been removed on the directions of the Election Commission and politicians too are missing from the scene.

However, the district administration and cops are busy preparing for the elections and working over time. The election complaint centre, media certification and monitoring committee offices have been set up at the District Administrative Complex. A number of meetings are being held regarding the elections almost regularly. The cops too have held detailed meetings about the elections. Even the Director-General of Police (DGP) had recently visited Bathinda to discuss the poll arrangements and requirements.

Notably, as major political parties are yet to announce their candidates, election fever is yet to catch up. Muktsar district has four Assembly constituencies, which further fall into three parliamentary constituencies. Lambi Assembly constituency is a part of Bathinda parliamentary constituency. Gidderbaha Assembly constituency is a part of Faridkot parliamentary constituency. Muktsar and Malout Assembly constituencies are part of Ferozepur parliamentary constituency. In any of these constituencies, hardly any politician is touring these days.

“Leaders are busy lobbying for tickets, visiting Chandigarh and Delhi,” said a politician, who is also in the race of ticket.
