The city witnessed partially cloudy weather with light drizzle on Tuesday. The MeT Department has predicted that the intense cold wave, which is lashing the region, is here to stay for some more days.
The region experienced intermittent drizzle on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The city received 3.2 mm downpour, as recorded by the Agro-met advisory services, PAU regional station, Bathinda.
Besides, the region also witnessed vagaries of weather in terms of mercury’s mood swing as minimum temperature was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the day’s maximum temperature was 16.6 degrees Celsius. The difference between the day’s minimum and maximum temperatures is coming down, intensifying the chill.
Meanwhile, the first rainfall of the season, though mild, brought smiles on the faces of farming community, which, for the past so many days, was worried about the rabi crops.
According to agriculture experts as well as farmers, intermittent drizzling and rain washed out various problems related to irrigation and frost accretion. Besides other benefits, the drought-like situation has also been cleared and moisture rose to the required level. The rain may also prolong the winter season and stretch the duration of crop life.
They said besides wheat, the rain will also be a boon for potato and kinnow. Plants and flowers sensitive to frost would also be benefitted, experts added.
