Barnala, August 16

The Mehal Kalan police have registered a case of fraud against three Ludhiana residents for duping a local resident of Rs 14.50 lakh on the pretext of sending her to Australia.

As per allegations leveled by Amarjit Singh, accused Raminder Singh, Saloni and Parwinder Singh took Rs 14.50 lakh from him last year to send his daughter-in-law to Australia. He said he gave Rs 7.50 lakh in the first instalment and Rs 7 lakh in the second.

But when accused did not send her to Australia, Amarjit started demanding his money back. Last month, the accused returned Rs 1.70 lakh to Amarjeet and gave two cheques for the remaining amount, but both cheques bounced, he added.

When his efforts failed to get back his money, Amarjit lodged a complaint at the Barnala SSP’s office, which was forwarded to the Mehal Kalan police station.

“We have registered a case against Raminder, Saloni and Parwinder and conducting raids to arrest them,” said ASI Satpal Singh. — TNS
