Bathinda, February 26

A Bathinda Improvement Trust (BIT) Junior Engineer, Jasvir Singh (50), a resident of Gidderbaha area in the district, was crushed to death by a hydra crane at Kanhaiya Chowk here on Wednesday morning. The incident took place when he was going to review development works at Transport Nagar in the city.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the victim’s face was badly crushed. After getting the information, workers of the local NGO Naujawan Welfare Society reached the spot and informed the Thermal police about the incident.

The NGO workers and the police took the body to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem. The driver of the hydra crane fled the spot leaving behind the vehicle. The Thermal police took the crane into its custody and started a probe into the incident. The police have registered a case against the crane driver on the statement of the victim’s family member.

The victim had been as a Junior Engineer at BIT for a long time. He is survived by his wife and two sons. BIT Chairman KK Aggarwal and other officials mourned his death.
