The Mansa police and a team of the Health Department on Tuesday conducted a raid at a dairy in Bareta and seized 59 quintal desi ghee.

The police said health officials had taken five samples of ghee and sent these to a Chandigarh laboratory for tests while the seized ghee has been sealed.

Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh said the police raid was headed by Mansa CIA Staff head Baljit Singh Brar and food inspector Sandeep Singh was also present there.

The SSP claimed that they got a tip-off that spurious ghee was being sold in bottles. Acting on it, the police raided a dairy located in the grain market and 10 quintal ghee was seized from a canter.

Health Department officials said the ghee was supplied in the market with labels carrying Aneek name. The police seized 49 quintal ghee lying in the dairy, 10 quintal ghee loaded in a vehicle and the machine by which this ghee was prepared.

Mansa food inspector Sandeep Singh said they sealed 59 quintal ghee packed in 5 kg, 2 kg and 1 kg packs. They sent its sample for testing to the lab and further action would be taken after receiving the report.

Dairy owner Ramesh Chand said they themselves prepared desi ghee and some ghee was brought from Samrala in a canter.

Moreover, they sent ghee to Milkfed on canter as well. He said they had got their trademark label registered and there was no wrongdoing. It will be clear after receiving the report from the lab, he added.
