6.5 kg opium recovered from car in Bathinda, 2 held

Bathinda police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two people and recovered 6.5 kg of opium from their possession and seized their car.

They said a car coming from Dabwali side was stopped at a naka laid near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University on the Bathinda-Badal road here on Saturday. After frisking, two occupants were found carrying 4 kg of opium, they said.

The accused were identified as Jagsir Singh alias Sira, a resident of Mansa, and Mohinder Singh, a resident of Jassi Pauwali village.

A case was registered at the Canal Colony police station.

“Further, during interrogation, on the disclosure of accused Sira, an additional 2.5 kg of opium was recovered, taking the total recovery to 6.5 kg. Both were produced in a court today and are currently in three-day police custody. Sira is facing some cases under the NDPS Act and was convicted in two cases as well. He was currently out on bail,” said Bathinda city SP Narinder Singh.

He added that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had brought the contraband from Rajasthan.
