“When the baby was born, we thought everything was over. But the hospital team encouraged us and told us we would fight together,” said Rekha.

The family belongs to a rural area with limited healthcare facilities, and the government hospital became their only option. The baby’s weight has now increased from 600 grams to 1,200 grams.

The treatment was led by Dr Pallavi Bansal, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, along with Dr Sanjay Rathi and Dr Pawan Goyal.

“These problems are common in premature babies, but saving a baby with such a low birth weight was a major challenge. We used advanced incubators, ventilators and continuous monitoring,” said Dr Bansal.

The baby has been discharged but will continue follow-up at the hospital.
